Film Assignment for Unit 1
DIRECTIONS:
Day 1
- Review Film Terms & Techniques in the button above. All cinematic techniques are listed there and all the scenes we watched.
- Watch scenes and how they are analyzed in the Anatomy of a Scene buttons
Day 2
- Select any film that you want to watch and write about. It could be a new film, old film, or a film that you have already seen must you must watch it again. If you liked a scene we saw in class you can look up the film and watch then. You can write about a different scene from the one we analyzed in class.
- Watch the whole film from start to finish, taking notes sporadically, on scenes or moments that stand out to you.
- Then select a 3-5 minute scene that you will analyze. Take detailed notes.
- Finally, write a 1-2 page response essay examining the scene. You should:
- Write a detailed description of WHAT is happening in the scene: who do we see? Where are we? What is the mise-en-scene?
- State the cinematic techniques that are used. Use appropriate vocabulary. Look through the film technique terms on my website if you do not remember all the terms.
- Explain how these techniques affect the purpose, mood, tone, theme of the film
- Bold the cinematic techniques
- Get creative!
